Photographic Studio & Office - North London
We were commissioned by a prominent British fashion photographer to consolidate his separate office space and equipment storage facility into a new bespoke base for him and his team.
Our brief was to upgrade and future-proof the shell of the terraced, two-storey Victorian warehouse, retaining the most characterful original features, before refurbishing the interior with a bespoke fit-out tailored to the client’s precise requirements.
This included concealed storage for a large quantity of varied equipment, magazine archive, library, contact sheets and prints, plus a kitchen, bathroom, a large communal desk and a clear space which could be used to shoot portraits.
The project became as much about what you don’t see as what you do, creating hard working storage spaces without overfilling the rooms. The energetic ‘workshop’ nature of activity within the studio could easily have given rise to a less formal utilitarian aesthetic, but we instead aimed to keep a composed, elegant, but practical feel to the spaces. We wanted the studio to be a calm yet uplifting environment to work in rather than feeling like a kit room.
We acted as both designer and main contractor on this project.
